The Story Behind

Ikkat, a centuries-old resist-dyeing technique, thrives in the villages of Pochampally and Koylagudem in Telangana. Artisans first tie and dye the warp and weft yarns in precise patterns before weaving them on traditional looms. This creates the signature blurred, feathered motifs unique to the craft.

Pochampally Ikat, a Geographical Indication product, is renowned for its geometric designs and rich colours. Nearby Koylagudem continues the same tradition, producing both cotton and silk ikats. The process demands skill, patience, and deep knowledge of dyeing and weaving, passed down through generations.
