The Story Behind

Ajrakh is an ancient hand block printing technique from Kutch (Bhuj) Gujarat, Jodhpur, Barmer in Rajasthan and Sindh, Pakistan, practiced by the Khatri community for over 4,500 years. Named after the Arabic "azrak" (blue), it features intricate geometric patterns in deep indigo, red, and white, created using natural dyes like indigo and madder.

The labor-intensive process involves 16–23 steps: washing fabric, resist printing with clay-lime paste, multiple dye immersions, and precise block alignments for symmetrical designs symbolizing cosmic harmony.

This sustainable, eco-friendly art adorns traditional attire and continues to inspire modern fashion.
